Sue Bertsch & Art Bunting, Jackson District, Front Desk/Visitor Information/Roving
“I like to do something fun and interesting every summer and like to stay in beautiful places,” says Art Bunting. “The Bridger-Teton National Forest is a beautiful place full of wonderful animals and things to do and we thought volunteering for Friends of the Bridger-Teton [directly supporting the Bridger-Teton National Forest] on it would be a great way to spend our summer.” It wasn’t hard to get Sue to come along. “I’m looking forward to helping people out, learning about the area, and enjoying some birding. I’m excited to see what birds are around the area.”
Both Art and Sue, albeit separately (since they didn’t meet until the early 2010s), first visited Jackson Hole more than 30 years ago. Art was here in his Volkswagon campmobile in the 1960s and 70s. He was a kayak instructor at the time and exploring Western rivers. “Jackson Hole was pretty wild then,” he says. “There weren’t a lot of people.”
Sue, who worked as a nurse for 44 years and lives in Redmond, Oregon, visited Jackson Hole in the 1980s and remembers the area’s mountainous beauty. “I’m excited to experience the area more deeply—and to help others do the same,” she says. “This is such a great opportunity.”
