Program Manager
Permanent, full-time
Compensation + Benefits: $55,000–$70,000, depending on experience; 175 hours (25 days) PTO + 10 paid holidays; 3% employer 401(k) match; Health, dental, and vision insurance (50% employer-paid premium)
FBT seeks a dynamic, relationship-driven, and entrepreneurial Program Manager to lead and grow community stewardship, visitor outreach, and on-the-ground programs across the BTNF. The Program Manager is the primary leader of the Ambassadors for Responsible Recreation Program and serves as a representative of FBT in public, partner, and field settings.
A confident communicator with strong public speaking and interpersonal skills, and proven experience managing programs, budgets, and complex partnerships with thrive in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership
Lead FBT’s Ambassadors for Responsible Recreation program into an exciting new stage of expansion, including recruitment, training, supervision, program evaluation, and helping to grow the program in scope and scale across the entire BTNF;
Manage program logistics (vehicles, equipment, supplies, scheduling);
Build and maintain strong partnerships with USFS staff, community organizations, and local governments.
Project & Budget Management
Develop and manage program budgets;
Track expenses and support grant writing, reporting, and partner engagement;
Coordinate BTNF and partner meetings, outreach efforts, and enrichment opportunities for FBT volunteer ambassadors.
Community Engagement
Along with FBT staff, represent FBT at public events, trainings, and partner meetings;
Build relationships community groups and facilitate group discussions;
Support youth programs, volunteer initiatives, and community partnerships;
Innovation & Growth
Identify opportunities to enhance existing programs and develop new ones;
Bring creativity, initiative, and entrepreneurial thinking to challenges.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
Excellent public speaking and group facilitation skills;
Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building abilities;
Experience managing programs, projects, budgets, and/or volunteers;
Collaborative problem-solver who thrives in dynamic outdoor environments;
Passion for public lands, recreation, and community stewardship.
Preferred: Master’s degree or equivalent experience in conservation, recreation, natural resources, or related fields. Experience working in or with a Federal or State land management agency (i.e. USDA Forest Service, National Park Service, etc.).

Winter Snowmobile Trail Ambassadors
Seasonal: Now through April 2026, Friday through Sunday
Compensation: $17 per hour plus mileage reimbursement at 70 cents per mile
In partnership with the Wyoming State Trails Program and the U.S. Forest Service, we’re hiring six Winter Snowmobile Trail Ambassadors to support the Winter Motorized Recreation Ambassador Program. These Trail Ambassadors will engage directly with snowmobilers to promote safety, responsible recreation, and sticker compliance with Wyoming State Trails regulations. This is a seasonal, part-time position focused on education, user contact, and trail stewardship at high-use snowmobile trailheads in the Big Piney, Greys River, Pinedale, and Kemmerer Districts.
Experience with backcountry or motorized winter recreation and avalanche safety are required.
