Wyoming Range Connector Trail Re-route

Re-route a significant connector trail to the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail from the McDougal Gap Trailhead off of Forest Service Road 10125. Did you know that the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail is 70 miles long and runs the crest of the whole Wyoming Range? This Wyoming gem is a congressionally-designated National Recreation Trail but it could use some love!

We’ll work from the McDougal Gap Trailhead from 9am-4pm digging a couple miles of new trail. Volunteers should bring all the food, water and gear they need for a day outside, we’ll provide trail tools! Contact Sarah@btfriends.org with questions or to let us know you’re coming. Great dispersed camping options nearby.

Solitude Monitoring with the Wyoming Wilderness Association

From our partners at the Wyoming Wilderness Association- Contact Peggie@wildwyo.org or go to wildwyo.org to sign up or learn more.

Saturday, July 21— Solitude in the Teton Wilderness: A Stewardship Opportunity — Moderate

The Wilderness Act of 1964 states that Wilderness has “...outstanding opportunities for solitude or a primitive and unconfined type of recreation”. Join us as we partner with Bridger-Teton Wilderness Ranger Chelsea Phillippe on the Teton Wilderness with nothing but the packs on our backs and boots on our feet to experience this thing called solitude, first hand. Along the way enjoy this slice of Wyoming wild country by observing wildlife, soaking up incredible vistas and assisting with an ongoing Forest Service “Solitude Monitoring” project aimed at measuring how well this specific Wilderness characteristic is being upheld. Also, learn about the many other ways Wilderness Rangers across the country are working to maintain our untrammeled landscapes for generations to come and how you can be more involved in their upkeep. Be prepared to hike 5-8 miles with moderate elevation change.
