Roving Recreation and Visitor Support, Jackson and Blackrock Districts
Steve and Lisa are returning for their sixth season as BTNF ambassadors. While primarily volunteering in Visitor Services, they welcome a chance to help anywhere in the forest. This includes supporting the Snake River program, Smokey the Bear and fire safety programs, slaying thistle and other invasives, installing fire rings, and helping to install new trail signage.
In 1980, Steve and Lisa honeymooned in Jackson Hole. Their first activity a 3-day horse packing trip in the Gros Ventre range. They are thrilled to return as ambassadors and give back to an area that means so much to them. Through the years, the opportunities to volunteer and help have evolved as they got to know BTNF staff and the BTNF itself better. Steve enjoys woodworking and has helped prepare new signage for trailheads and other popular areas.
Asked why they come back each year, Steve and Lisa say it is not just the area’s natural beauty, but the chance to support the dedicated people at the Forest Service who protect and share these public lands. The couple are avid birders and also volunteer at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in South Texas in winter.
Look for Steve and Lisa this summer representing the Forest Service by helping area visitors at the Elk Refuge’s Interagency Visitor’s Center, battling thistle, or helping to celebrate Smokey the Bear’s birthday.
