Samantha grew up in Breckenridge, Colorado and has spent the past two summers in Jackson Hole. “I’m always on the lookout for different local nonprofits that work with sustainability and rivers,” she says. “When I saw the river steward position I was excited.”
Previously Samantha worked for Wyoming Game & Fish as a fishery technician and in the office at Dave Hansen Whitewater. “I was injured, but I still got to get out with some guides and on the river,” she says. Last winter she was a ski coach with the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club.
Whether on the river for work or fun Samantha keeps in mind that it is a shared space. “The river isn’t our own; there are other people recreating on it, too.”
Favorite rapid in the Snake River Canyon:
“I’ve had some funny incidents and stories at Haircut [rock]. It can be a little dicey, but if you know the route it is smooth sailing.”
