Mickey Atkins grew up in a mountain biking family in Grand Junction, Colorado. “Mountain biking was pretty much me and my family’s lives,” he says.
Mickey has been doing trail work for several years and says one of the things he likes about outdoor work is hanging out after the day’s work is done. “Having dinner together and playing games is fun,” he says. A favorite game is hackey sack. “I’m a big hackey sack guy. Every crew I’ve been on, I’ve gotten hacky sack into the daily routine. It makes for a good morning stretch,” he says.
When not out on hitches, Mickey plans on exploring the gravel riding in the area. “I brought my bikepacking stuff,” he says.
Favorite trail tool:
“The Travis tool is a combination of a hoe, rake, and tamper. I hadn’t even heard of it until my last trail crew, but once I did, it was basically the only tool I used. You can cut with it, and also rake and loosen stuff up, and also tamp stuff down.”
