Meet Ingrid Rothe and Dan Scott, Goosewing Guard Station Ambassadors
When they saw the position for volunteer Ambassadors at the Goosewing Guard Station, Ingrid and Dan say they just decided to go for it. When they learned they got the assignment for summer 2025, “we really couldn’t believe it,” they say. “What a dream come true.”
Prior to arriving at Goosewing, Ingrid had never before been to the Tetons or Jackson Hole. Dan, who grew up in Salmon, Idaho, was familiar with the area, though. “Several years ago I did a camping trip in Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Green River Lakes,” he says. Ingrid says, “I know I am walking into a world that is new for me, but what an adventure!”
Recently retired, the couple, who lives south of Dallas, Texas, say they hope to make volunteering on public lands something they do frequently. “Before Goosewing, we had talked about being campground hosts or something, but once we got on volunteer.gov and saw all of the interesting and wonderful places and things that were possible, we decided that this is what we want to do with our retirement,” they say.
Fun Facts: Ingrid: In September 2024, she had one of her lifelong dreams come true—hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. “Several times a week I still look at Dan and say, ‘we have to get back on the Camino.’ I just felt so alive and engaged with the world.” Dan: “One of the things I picked back up in retirement is music.” Dan plays electric bass in a Judas Priest tribute band.
