Ambassadors at work on Shadow Mountain

Sitting just outside the boundary of Grand Teton National Park and with stunning views of the Tetons, Shadow Mountain is the busiest designated dispersed camping area on the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

The Jackson Hole News&Guide recently did an article about the challenges national park and BTNF staff and volunteers face from an increased number of campers and visitors and the great work they’re doing to educate them.

“Yes, there are some issues, but I want to emphasize that a lot of people are coming here and having fun and doing their thing and having an awesome time, which is absolutely what we want,” Jackson District Ranger Todd Stiles told the newspaper. “We’re just trying to do the best we can to hold the line and to let people love it here, enjoy it, have this camping experience and not have it become somewhere people don’t want to come in 10 to 20 years.”

We acknowledge with respect that our facilities are situated on the aboriginal land of the Shoshone Bannock. Eastern Shoshone. Northern Arapaho. Crow. Assiniboine. Sioux. Gros Ventre. Nez Perce.
